Drum & Earth Connection
When we pick up the drum, we instantly feel a sense of belonging and connection.
DRUM MEDICINE
Using a hand drum for the first time can bring smiles and wonder to everyone, no matter the age or ability, perhaps because we connect with it on a primal level. Drumming connects us to our hearts rhythm and sub-consciously reminds us of the sound of our mother’s heartbeat in the womb.
Rhythmic drumming has been shown to alter our consciousness, slowing down our brain waves from a beta to alpha state, synonymous with that achieved through meditation. Drum healing over the body helps clear and balance on a deep level, providing the body with the opportunity to heal itself and restore harmony within.
It has also been shown to positively alter blood pressure readings, activate natural killer cells, strengthen immune function and promote the production of endorphins, which act as the body’s natural pain killers. Other beneficial physiological effects include increased heart rate and blood flow, engaging both right and left sides of brain function, improved co-ordination and accelerated healing from trauma, stress and illness.
The drum is also used in shamanic healing to ’journey’ and tap into our unconscious resources for helping resolve emotional issues, access spiritual guidance and for healing soul trauma.
It is enjoyable and fun and can be used with mixed client groups, schools and in business to improve group communication and connection.

EARTH CONNECTION
Deepening one’s relationship with earth is best explored through meditation, especially outside, where possible. If you can approach your meditation from a place of humility and grace, you will reap the benefits with new found awareness and insight.
By honouring our connection to the land, we maintain a symbiotic relationship in remembering what she provides, what we take, what we can give back. This is much needed in these times in order to restore balance on earth and in ourselves.
Rainbow Shaman offers opportunities to share and learn about this re-balancing through meditation in nature but also bringing people together to benefit from this connection, working with movement, mindfulness in nature, the voice, the drum and creative expression.
The long term goal is to set up a charity in honour of my son, Noah’s memory, offering similar activities to young people to support mental health and well-being. Some future events will also be linked to raising funds towards this project.
