Rainbow Shaman Dance
Why dance??? Simply because it makes us feels good! And cultures all around the world for centuries use dance and creativity for celebration and joining in community for healing, ritual and ceremonial practice.
“Dancing is a primal way to reach altered states of consciousness, to reach out of the confines of the everyday trance and to touch the liminal. Dancing helps us to return fully into our body and take our body to Spirit”.
Leo Rutherford from “Principles of Shamanism”
Our early experiences can shape how we adapt to the world around us. We often learn to contain and restrict our body’s natural flow of energy. Going from stillness into conscious movement creates a sense of connection, allowing an inner dialogue and conversation with our bodies.

Regular dancing provides a channel to restore balance on all levels. It helps us to release trauma, tension, suppressed emotions and stress, combat depression, increase joy, improve body image, develop co-ordination, enhance self-confidence, release endorphins, oxygenate the cells and improve our general level of fitness.
Dancing together also provides a sense of belonging within our tribe. Dance can also act as prayer in motion and a medium for elevating consciousness to raise your vibration to connect in with Source.
ME AND THE DANCE

I began exploring the alternative dance scene recovering from post viral fatigue, fibromyalgia and an injury from an accident in my 20’s. I found normal forms of exercise too competitive and painful but mindful movement gave my body a voice showing me how to strengthen my healing.
I have been holding workshops in movement and conscious dance since 2002. I completed my ‘Dancing The Rainbow’ Training in Ireland. This movement and dance practice uses the seven main chakras utilized in yogic traditions to inform movement and expression. This frame work often informs the bones of my creative work.
Having worked in the field of alternative health for many years, I include tools from my healing practice into my workshops, such as working with meditation, sound, drumming and energy work to strengthen body/mind connection. I have also explored other means of movement practice and completed a Trance Dance Practitioner course with Leo Rutherford from Eagles Wing Centre for Contemporary Shamanism.

WHAT TO EXPECT
Rainbow Shaman Dance offers pathways for re-connection to your body’s inner wisdom, opening gateways for your self-expression and enjoying conscious dance away from the idea of performance.
Learning to work with your own level of fitness and ability is encouraged. Plus we incorporate techniques for developing presence, relaxation and stillness through breath work and meditation.
All teaching is held within a sacred space to develop connection and mutual respect for one another and creates a sense of tribe. Working individually and within the group without criticism or judgement of yourself or others provides a place to feel supported.

We also work in close connection to our bodies, the earth and elements with an awareness of the chakra’s and their archetypes and events may include some connection outside. The use of voice with movement at times may be also be encouraged for self-expression, providing added ways to process pain and emotion.
Music is varied and global in content and helps focus mind/body awareness through a grounded movement practice. Depth of work depends upon content and length of the class, course or workshop.
I also like to collaborate with others in this field of work to provide a varied programme of learning.

“I attended Lisa’s chakra dance workshop. The dance and movement elements offered a refreshing approach and I particularly appreciated the meditation session. The teaching style provided a balanced programme between activity and relaxation and demonstrated comprehensive knowledge of the subject. I look forward to attending further workshops in the future”
Joan, Wiltshire.
I have attended Lisa’s movement and dance events for a year. I have found them to be therapeutic, relaxing, calming as well as grounding for me and I have made new friends.”
Jill, Dorset.
“The body expressing itself truthfully is the living sculpture of all that has shaped us. The dance becomes a living art as we express our soul through the movements we make. Our thoughts are still and our movements are the movements of birds and animals and winter trees. In this way we recognise each other and in the moment, we are free”.
Lani O’Hanlon ‘Dancing the Rainbow – Holistic Well-Being Through Movement’
