Rainbow Shaman Expression & Dance

I enjoyed dance as a child but it was not until the early 90’s, attending holistic dance events, that my love of movement was re-ignited.

In my early 20’s, I sustained injuries from an accident and began searching for ways to work with my body’s ability to move in a more mindful way.  I explored several different modalities, before studying to become a facilitator in Dublin for two years with two amazing teachers called Lani O’Hanlon Lani O’Hanlon | The Poetry Foundation and Antoinette Spillane (who has now sadly passed).

The course involved using the body’s energy centres, or chakras, as a framework, to explore somatic movement, dance, meditation and creative expression. I qualified as a teacher in ‘Dancing The Rainbow’ in 2002 and began holding events in the U.K.

Journaling our process in a creative way inspired my painting the stones that later transformed into the Power Stone Cards.

This framework still informs the ‘bones’ of most of my creative work and is the basis for the movement practice I teach and work with today, alongside my experience running a healing practice for years and my shamanic studies.

I have also completed the Trance Dance Practitioner course with Leo Rutherford from Eagles Wing Centre for Contemporary Shamanism designed to take others through a contemporary shamanic trance dance process.

The Benefits

Moving in a deeply connected way offers a mindful approach to exercise, provides opportunities for release and facilitates body/mind re-connection. It strengthens neural pathways for the body’s experience of connection, recognition, relaxation and fun.

Regular movement combined with dance can:

  • Restore energy and re-balance the nervous system
  • Free stress and tension held within the body
  • Release endorphins to help combat depression
  • Provide pathways for trauma release
  • Increase our capacity for self-expression
  • Improve positive mindset/body image
  • Enhance self-confidence
  • Improve co-ordination & general levels of fitness
  • Act as a ‘prayer in motion’ and a medium for elevating consciousness
  • Help us experience a sense of connection to others
  • Strengthens our sense of belonging improving communication to others
  • Feels good and makes us feel happy!

“I attended Lisa’s dance workshop.  The dance and movement elements offered a refreshing approach and I particularly appreciated the meditation session. The teaching style provided a balanced programme between activity and relaxation and demonstrated comprehensive knowledge of the subject.  I look forward to attending further workshops in the future.”

“I spent an afternoon at a dance workshop led by Lisa. I had never participated in anything like this before and felt very shy at first but as the session progressed I became less self-conscious. I found it an amazing experience and one that also released within me a deep emotional reaction that I was not expecting to happen. Lisa made the whole workshop feel like a safe space and I felt very supported by her”.
